Given the current debate this is discussion we have using the historic context of the 1968 Kerner Commission created by LBJ to examine the causes for the 159 race riots that took place arcross the US in 1967 with the questions being - have things changed? Why/Why not?

I used a storyboard to outline how I might integrate a wildly implausible story into the regular TikTok flow of storytelling. After the viewer had realized it was fake, I would include key media literacy questions adapted from PBS Learning for reflection. My hope for inclusion of this type of reflection within TikTok would be to help shift viewer's mindsets from "everything on the internet is true" to a more critical approach to consuming media.

I noticed that most TikTok accounts dedicated to Chicano Studies share excerpts of documentaries that one could find on Youtube. None of the pages actually made interactive videos. If I were to create a TikTok channel for my class, I would dedicate it to chicano writers, with each video discussing important points of the author's life and key aspects of the literary work of the week. To ensure that students are watching the video, I'd add a question at the end.

I teach one world religion class, and I could see many benefits to using Tiktok as a lens into religious diversity within a particular tradition. For example, in my chapter on monotheistic religions, I could ask students to investigate "Jewish TikTok" or "Muslim TikTok" and then ask them to write a reflection on what they learned. I'm not sure what I would do in terms of asking students to make their own Tiktoks - but perhaps they would use a simple format where they reflect on the words and images that left the largest impression on them. The wonderful thing about this kind of lesson is that it brings authentic voices of others into our classroom conversation.

Before seeing some of the educational sites on tik tok such as Nat Geo and the also various news outlets, I would have never considered it an educational tool. I always assumed it was just a tool that younger kids used to hide their dangerous games and challenges away from adults. I now see how it actually can be a reasonably good way to bridge the gap between the young and the old. The old being myself!! I would utilize it by doing a current event. I enjoyed one skit where an actor was talking about the recent balloons that have been shot down. He played all the parts such as reporter, president, to give information in a more indirect way of what actually happened and in what states the objects where shot down. He played charades and although it seemed silly. I really remember much of the information about where the balloons where spotted. I instantly thought my students would probably like this. So I now see the Tik tok does have some educational value.
