This segment discussed how the use of oral tradition works, this is when a culture or civilization verbally retells a story through generations but is now considered uncivilized. I found this to be a profound statement living in the midst of technology and having the ability to easily record something via computer , notebook, and or text. My initial thought was that modern day society has so many options to use to record information, it is easy to gain a sense of arrogance in regards to oral tradition.  I think oral tradition has great benefits in creating family traditions and legacy. I also think it does show a level of mental aptitude to remember and retell specific and meaningful details generation after generation.

This segment discusses how Mansa Musa in his travels displayed great wealth. This showed that Africa had developed great Kings during Medieval times and also they were worldly and generous. The most interesting part is how in his travels he ignited a fire storm of greedy  nations that would soon come searching for the riches and wealth that he had displayed. Mansa Musa in his blind arrogance and display of overabundance, brought suffering and plundering to West Africa and maybe the whole of Africa for many future generations to come. I am certain we could never imagined what his journey cost in actual gold , lives, and future chaos.
