A. For the Placing Humanities activity, I chose Spanish Harlem, my hometown, as a personally important place. For a place where geography influenced the humanities, I chose the area where the Cotton Club was located (142nd & Lenox Ave in New York City). When Jim Crow laws were in place, Black people were not allowed to patronize establishments like the Cotton Club. They were, however, allowed to perform there, which increased the visibility and popularity of many Black artists. Musical artists such as Duke Ellington launched their careers at the Cotton Club. And finally, I chose Croatia as a location where the humanities influenced geography. I conceptualize tourism as being connected to geography (Please correct me if I am wrong). The popularity of Game of Thrones, partly filmed in Croatia, heavily increased tourism in Croatia.
B. I'm Melissa. My three dogs and I live in Tampa. My dogs have trained me to give them a life of luxury, so I work as an English professor to fund their need for tomatoes, roast beef, peanut butter, squeaky toys, and orthopedic beds they use for 30 seconds before curling up on the couch.
C. The first three words that came to mind for this prompt were Jeopardy, globes, and boots. I remember taking a Geography course in junior high, and the teacher loved gamifying the course material with Jeopardy-style games. Globes rather explains itself. As for boots--For some reason, remembering that Italy was shaped like a boot helped me identify all its neighboring countries.
Peace,
Melissa🌺
Your pups have you well trained! I have two--but I don't think they've ever eaten tomatoes!
I hope your dogs realize how lucky they are! I love your word choices. I too learned just about everything in relation to Italy and the UK.
