1. It is important to center Africans telling their own stories because they are the experts on their own continent. It would be unwise and unresponsible of us to think that we know something of their culture if we are not of that culture. The African population has so much to offer with regards to novels, picture books, etc. There is much culture to be treasured from examining these items.
2. In my curriculum as a chemistry teacher, I can try to incorporate African voices. I can tell the biographies of numerous African chemists who made great discoveries relevant to the periodic table, elements, etc. I can help my students see that chemistry was not merely a product of Europeans who had the money to advance science, but of a variety of cultures that helped to advance the field.
