Below is my Lesson Plan:
5 mins - Students will do a quick write. What is a "pact"? What are some modern documents that serve like a pact, and how might this be similar to a treaty/contract?
15 mins - Students will read the Pact of Umar. Students will note the main idea of each paragraph of the Pact and describe its intended effect on the original audience.
5 mins - Students will share their findings with a partner in the classroom and talk about how each of the findings relates to the text at hand.
10 mins - Students have a small group discussion about the Pact of Umar. What are some relatable aspects about the Pact of Umar in the present-day? How would the pact be different if it was written today? Students will write their responses on a T-Chart/poster paper to share their findings later with the class.
10 mins - gallery walk: Students will take their poster paper of findings and then walk around the room to look at other teams' work. Students will place sticky notes on other teams' papers and comment on their findings with a comment. Constructive feedback will be provided.
