After reading this article, it has become painfully obvious to me how people view Africa in regards to literature. It is easier for the Western world and literature experts alike to box African literature through social issues/commentary. The article stated that, "African fiction is invisible except when it is reflected on a mirror of social ills, cultural themes and political concerns." This is very shameful and hurtful because we are not fully honoring and respecting the works of these authors and the stories that they are striving to tell. So it is essential that we treat these stories with dignity and respect, and if we are not sure how to label them, then I think it would be beneficial to reach out to the novelists and experts to make sure that we are honoring these stories in its fullness.
