  1. What have been the motivations for the creation of new African literary journals?
  2. What are some of the challenges that these platforms face?

New African literary journals have been created because so few literary outlets are devoted to Black writers, poets, etc. Most literary outlets center other voices that are non-Black, and the Black population sensed a need to see representation amongst their people. Having African Literary journals has provided Black journalists with a safe space to share their work; they feel at home with people who are a part of their own culture.

Some of the challenges that these platforms face include the fact that there are financial constraints. Many of these journals depend on individual donations or even their own money to stay afloat. This makes it hard for the groups to be self-sustaining and to be able to see their practices thrive. It adds to the difficulties that they are already facing.
