I chose the Accra Declaration, which was described previously in another module in the section. I will express my opinion in an op-ed style below. I agree with the key sentiments of the Accra Declaration. In the words of the authors, "We submit that African nations and political leaders must take a center position,
fully in step with, and guided by, African peoples and civil society in enforcing the demands of full repair from the perpetrating nations, institutions, governments and families that have negatively impacted the African world". I agree that African peoples ought to be in center stage in regards to the reparations, Africans have historically faced so much discrimination, and it is only proper that they are provided with what is needful in this time. Yet, I do wonder if the approach towards reparations is the proper one. I'm not fully convinced of the exact method of the reparations that the Accra Declaration is fighting for.
