I chose  The Accra Declaration on Reparations and Racial Healing. The reason why I chose this is because I feel like slavery is an atrocity to the human race. This is a document that will bring awareness and peace to these people ( I hope). It is a new path for reparations towards them. I believe that it is unjusticeful the way Africans were treated during and after slavery. After slavery, people despised them and to me that is insane because it was those people that took them from their homes and now they hate them. The document states “That the crimes of the Transatlantic Slave Trade, colonialism, apartheid and neocolonialism and the systems, structures and institutions established to perpetuate these harms have left a negative injurious legacy that impacts every aspect of the lives of people of African descent around the world, in the present day and stymies the capacity to be fully self-determining and accorded the rights owed by virtue of being human.” I also chose this artifact because I do teach about American Colonization and the use of slaves for their plantations. I believe students should be made aware of the injustices and that Africa is not seen as a mockery continent. Africa has so much more to give.
