I still enjoy the framework. it still excites me like it did the first time. I am changing my original slideshow and activities to be more student focused from my original idea.
I have narrowed it down to two essential questions. How can we use words, rhythm, and movement to share our stories and understand others is the first. question. The other question is How do the people and places in our community shape our stories? I am leaning towards these questions. My goals for the students are to be able to describe their identities, share strengths interests through poems and stories. I also want them to learn that language has a story. We can listen respectfully when someone shares a story.
The Framework: Social Structures: Who Are We to Others?
Students must develop their ability to recognize the various types of social relations that African people found themselves in with regard to other Africans as well as with non-Africans. This will be an interesting lens just within Boston, Dorchester and the Cape Verdean and Black American communities.
