Vai is one of the oldest languages, it began in 3,000 BC and is still being used today. Vai is a language used in Liberia and Sierra Leone. The language was developed around 1833 by Momolu Duwalu Bukele who learned how to write and his dream was to create an alphabet for his language. Momolu along with several male family members worked and created a system of 200 symbols, each representing a word or syllable. Vai was one of nearly 30 foreign languages and today many still speak Vai in the Cape Mount region in Sierra Leone. In the present time, Vai is being taught in the University of Liberia and continues to be very popular amid others who are not native to the language.
