The motivations for the creation of new African literary journals include a desire to showcase diverse voices and perspectives that are often underrepresented in mainstream publishing, to provide a platform for emerging writers and established authors to share their work, and to promote a sense of community and connection among African writers and readers.

Some of the challenges that these platforms face include limited funding and resources, lack of visibility and distribution channels, and competition from larger, more established publications. Additionally, there may be a lack of recognition or support from the literary establishment, both within Africa and internationally, which can make it difficult for these journals to attract submissions and build a loyal readership.
