Framework 3 really stood out to me. "Making students aware that Africans developed their own systems of thinking about reality will allow them to ask how Africans in the U.S. (or throughout the diaspora) have retained elements of their African identities while adapting new experiences and cultures to the challenge of living." I think there are many ways to incorporate this into our poetry unit, as poetry is often deeply personal and typically speak to identities and cultures. I think an essential question could be: What identities are highlighted in these texts and how do they connect to the experiences mentioned.
