I watched The Kingdom of Kush: Modern Day Egypt/Sudan. What stood out to me was how organized the Kingdom of Kush was, especially through its trade along the Nile, skilled archers and horsemen, and its own writing system. I was also interested in their burial practices and beliefs about the afterlife. This history is important because it shows students that Africa has a rich history of organized societies, innovation, trade, and culture long before colonization. What struck me most was how much the Kingdom of Kush developed and how much there still is to learn about its history.

I also found it interesting that, despite its long history, the documentary didn't seem to mention many stories of people seizing power or fighting to take the throne. I wonder if this was because Kush was a highly centralized society, and whether that strong concentration of power helped the kingdom maintain its rule for so long.
