Kumola Dumor made many great points in his TEDtalk, but one of the biggest takeaways is to "hire the best talent" and that doesn't necessarily mean people who call themselves experts and can report what they see outside of a hotel room, rather the people who live there and know about the experiences you are reporting about. At the end he finishes with a proverb, The narrative will glorify the hunter until the lion learns to write.

It is important to include African stories in the voices and perspective from African people otherwise there is always the risk that we will not get the full authentic story no matter how painful or amazingly positive it is. There are many scholars that have studied Africa and have shared their findings, but that should not have more value or credit over the people who live there and experience the topics, or issues that are researched.
