Students would be presented with the Alarvus and Ihnat readings. We would take the time to identify the bias and the role of geography in these accounts.

We would follow with a discussion of martyrdom circling around a definition and historical and literary examples.

After discussing the various accounts of the Cordoba Martyrs we could identify fictional literary martyrs such as Charolote (Charlotte's web), Winston (1984), etc... discuss other accounts of martyrs from history such as the Gracchi brothers, Joan of Arc, and Martin Luther King Jr. 

Is there anything noble about dying for your convictions? Is there a human responsibility to die for others?
