Third Grade Lesson:

Lesson opener:

After having a homework assignment asking parents what religion they practice students will share with their table. Then, I will call on each student and have them say the religion out loud. 

After sharing I will ask them how would you feel if you were treated unfairly based on your religious beliefs. They would do a quick write about their feelings/thoughts about this.

I will then introduce the topic of martyrdom and its definition then introduce martyrdom and its context within the stories of the Martyrs of Córdoba context within the stories of the Martyrs of Córdoba. I read a student friendly text. Once done we will have a discussion of what they understood, thoughts and what they need further clarification.

Independent work:

Students will then be asked to answer this prompt: If you were ruler of your city, how would you treat others that did not follow your beliefs or thoughts? Early finishers can draw a picture based on their writing.
