The guide that accompanies the book is full of great text-to-self discussion questions relatable and accessible to students of all ages. In addition to using the discussion questions after reading the book, you could also use some of them before reading to get students thinking about the role of food, family, and holidays in our lives. There are a lot of questions, so it would be too much to discuss them all, but having discussion partners be able to choose from a list of some of the questions would be very engaging for students. I also liked the second lesson idea of students crafting their own street hawking call similar to the one in the book about water. Third graders would love doing this, and it would give them a window into what it might be like to be a street hawker selling their wares.
