Demands for reparation: survivors and descendants have demanded compensation, official acknowledgment of colonial abuses, support for veterans, and recognition of land losses.
By Mau Mau veterans, the Mau Mau War Veterans Association, the Kenya Human Rights Commission.
During British colonial rule, especially the 1952–1960 Emergency, Kenyans experienced torture, detention, executions, and other abuses.
Demands were made through UK court cases, negotiations with the British government, public campaigns, and memorial projects.
In 2013, the UK agreed to pay £19.9 million to settle claims involving 5,228 Kenyans and supported a memorial in Nairobi. However, other veterans and descendants continue to seek compensation.
It's such a shame that these people have yet to receive any reparations!
