Hello everyone,
I am happy to be starting up again with you although the start of the year has been intense! After this next week we'll be on fall break and 1/4 of our year is already complete. I'm trusting that my third graders and I will settle into a comfortable routine where each day can be savored with new learning. In another course I learned about Radio Garden, an on-line site where you can enter a location around the globe and it will list radio stations from that location. We are having lots of fun with it. Here's the link:

I also introduced my students to freerice.com, a site sponsored by the UN's World Food Program. Students can solve problems and earn grains of rice for every correct answer that is then matched and contributed to children in need of rice! There's a lot to explore on the Sustainable Development Goals topic. This is just one nugget that my students learned about this week.
As far as my leadership goals, right now I am in staying afloat mode! I do have an interest in connecting with another classroom in an African country to do some classroom exchanges. It would be exciting to share that experience with other teachers at my site, district level professional developments and who knows where else?
Thanks for the tip about Radio Garden! So cool!! I hope you and the 3rd graders enjoy your school year. They're lucky to have you as a teacher. 🙂
Radio Garden sounds like such a fun and interesting resource. I can definitely see my sixth graders enjoying exploring different places around the world through radio. I also love the idea of connecting classrooms internationally. Thanks for sharing these great ideas! :::
@kelli-bivins I love this! What a great way to connect learning with helping others. I especially like that students can see how something as simple as answering questions can make a difference in someone else’s life.
What great resources you shared! I was amazed by Radio Garden - as you move through the globe, you hear the languages shift. So cool! If you are looking to connect classrooms, let me know what country you may be thinking of and I could help by activating some contacts.
